nitrogen cycle
today we looked at the root nodules in a legume plant. These plants have a symbiotic relationship with a nitrogen fixing bacteria called rhizobium. Not all plants have these nodules. Legumes are plants that make pods like soybean, clover, alfalfa, kidney beans, peas.

Worksheet on Bioaccumulation and Biomagnification
We finished a lab on bioaccumulation and biomagnification by looking at actual specimens of marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Now finish the worksheet.
Your next exam, to be announced will cover the entire unit. It will be announced for after next week and I will ask you for your input so it does not conflict with your other exams. Since it is a unit exam, then I will give the option of not counting your biome exam if you do significantly better on this one.

Reviewing biome notes
Today we reviewed the remainder of the biome notes (see class notes) . we will have a quiz next day on the questions assigned in the text and the notes reviewed up to now. The quiz will include everything except the section on evolution which we didn't have time to go over.
We went over predator and prey interactions, the difference between predator and prey skulls in with respect to their eyes and teeth and observed the adaptations of a hunting owl
Listen to this excerpt about an amur tiger a predator adapted to a strange connection between the boreal forest and the tropics. A documentary showing this huge tiger. And meet ninja cat, evidence that even domestic felines have similar instincts.
